Program Description:

POWER SKATING  is a fast-paced learning environment where hockey and ringette skaters ages 6-9 years will enhance the basic skating skills required to excel in their sport. Lessons are 75 minutes once a week. Balance, stopping, starts, proper skating technique, strides, and turns are taught in small group formats, incorporating drills and games. 

 

Skaters are required to know how to skate. This is not a learn-to-skate program.

 

Skater must be 6, 7, 8 or 9 years of age by the first lesson or within a month of starting the program.

 

Mandatory Equipment 
  • skaters are required to wear full hockey/ringette gear, and bring their sticks. 
  • CSA Approved Hockey Helmet - full face shields are recommended (click here for Skate Canada policy)

Program Description:

JUNIOR PREP (JP) is a program for those skaters who have completed at least one season of Intro to Figure Skating. Lessons are 90 minutes twice a week; however private and semi-private lessons can be arranged with the Head Coach. JP is an introduction to recreational and competitive figure skating. Skaters will develop new elements and skills in order to advance into our Junior STARSkating program. Skaters will work on STAR 1-5 program as well as testing.

Pre-CanSkate is a program for skaters aged 3-5.  Children should be three by the time classes begin and potty trained.  This program introduces the fundamental skating skills such as balance and glide by using fun and interactive games and activities in a group format.   Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants.  Upon mastering the skills in this program, skaters will move into our CanSkate program.

Lessons are given in a group format and led by a NCCP certified professional coach.  Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music, and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.   CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada skating programs. Parents are NOT allowed on the ice but are encouraged to stay at the rink or have someone to cover in case the child needs to get off (i.e. washroom, skate tightening etc).
