Program Description:

POWER SKATING  is a fast-paced learning environment where hockey and ringette skaters ages 6-9 years will enhance the basic skating skills required to excel in their sport. Lessons are 75 minutes once a week. Balance, stopping, starts, proper skating technique, strides, and turns are taught in small group formats, incorporating drills and games. 

 

Skaters are required to know how to skate. This is not a learn-to-skate program.

 

Skater must be 6, 7, 8 or 9 years of age by the first lesson or within a month of starting the program.

 

Mandatory Equipment 
  • skaters are required to wear full hockey/ringette gear, and bring their sticks. 
  • CSA Approved Hockey Helmet - full face shields are recommended (click here for Skate Canada policy)

Program Description:

Intro to Figure Skater (IFS) - Coach recommended. For those skaters transitioning out of the CanSkate program. These sessions will develop a training structure and introduce the basic skills of figure skating to enable the skater in order to advance into the JUNIOR PREP program.  Helmets are optional.  Working on Star 1-5 program/possible testing

Program Description:
  

Pre-CanSkate is a program for skaters aged 3-5.  Children should be three by the time classes begin and potty trained.  This program introduces the fundamental skating skills such as balance and glide by using fun and interactive games and activities in a group format.   Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants.  Upon mastering the skills in this program, skaters will move into our CanSkate program.  



Mandatory Equipment -  Skates - white (or black) figure skates OR  Hockey Skates - NO Bob Skates
                                             - CSA Approved Hockey Helmet - full face shields are recommended 
                                              - Gloves/Mitts & Warm Comfortable Clothing that they can move in (snow suits not recommended

Program Description:

CanSkate is  Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages.  When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skating skill development.  you will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills.   A 45 minute class either once or twice a week designed for beginners ages 5 and up. Lessons are given in a group format and led by a NCCP certified professional coach.  Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music, and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.   CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada skating programs. Parents are NOT allowed on the ice but are encouraged to stay at the rink or have someone to cover in case the child needs to get off (i.e. washroom, skate tightening etc).
